self care

Self-care is what we do consciously, to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.

It’s a simple concept in theory, but easy to overlook in practice.

The mission of Uncommon Remedy is to provide the tools that will make it easier for you to do everything in your power to take care of yourself – to complement the work you do with your traditional health care professionals.

After years of working with thousands of cancer patients undergoing treatment, Dr. Tsuchiyama knows how overwhelming it can feel to be swept up in a tsunami of medical visits, diagnosis, procedures, post-care recovery and bills, while coping with an array of doctors, nurses, technicians and practitioners whose primary focus is delivering a medical service rather than informing and empowering their patient.

It can be very hard to make sense of blood work or understand the reasons for taking a particular medication or supplement.

The common thread, for young and old, patients and caregivers, is a sense of loss of control.

Dr Tsuchiyama has found that patients experience less anxiety and achieve better outcomes –including more compassion for themselves and for others- when she gives them "homework" to increase their understanding of their symptoms and tools to empower them to take action to promote their own well-being.

If you can’t take care of yourself, how can you take care of your loved ones?
